The decision
Should you use AI visibility software, build it in house, or hire a done-for-you GEO agency?
By Karim MezitiSeptember 2026
Companies evaluating AI visibility usually have three choices: buy software, build an internal capability, or hire a partner to execute the work. The right option depends on whether you need measurement, a diagnosis of the gap, or someone to change the conditions behind AI recommendations.
This is a fit framework, not a scoreboard. None of the three is better than the others in general, and the page names no vendors. What follows is the question each one actually answers.
When software is the right choice
AI visibility software measures and monitors. It tells you which prompts surface your brand, which return a competitor, and how that moves over time. That is real and it is useful, and no agency should pretend otherwise.
It fits teams that already hold the capacity to act on what it reports: technical implementation, content production, and someone whose job it is to own the follow-through. If you have those, a tool may be all you are missing.
When building internally is the right choice
In-house delivery means owning four things at once: technical implementation, content production, authority-building in the places your category is discussed, and the measurement that tells you whether any of it worked.
Teams that already carry that capacity often should build. The work is not secret, and the sections below on measurement, diagnosis and execution describe what has to be covered either way.
When a done-for-you GEO agency is the right choice
The three options are easier to separate once you split the work into three layers.
- Measurement
- Tells a company whether it appears, is mentioned, or is cited in selected AI answers.
- Diagnosis
- Identifies buyer prompts, competitor gaps, source patterns, and the prioritization needed to understand the problem.
- Execution
- Changes the conditions that can influence future retrieval and citation, including technical AEO work, prompt-led content, relevant authority-building, and ongoing iteration.
LLMReach is for companies that need execution, not only reporting. See how the Citation Stack works.
When LLMReach is not the right fit
- Buyers in your category do not use AI assistants before deciding.
- You want a report, a one-time audit, or a dashboard rather than the work.
- You cannot provide site access or approve what gets published.
- You only want one isolated tactic.
- You expect results in a few weeks.
Already using an AI visibility platform?
A platform can show where your brand appears and where it does not. The next decision is whether your team has the time and capability to change the source environment behind those results. LLMReach works with companies that need execution, not only measurement.
Before you choose
The audit answers the question this page frames.
Which of the three is right for you depends on how big your gap is, how much of it is technical rather than editorial, and whether your team has the capacity to close it. Those are knowable before you commit to anything.
Your audit is reviewed live on the call. It is not emailed as a PDF.
