AI Search Optimization for Healthcare: Be the Provider AI Names When Patients Ask.
LLMReach is a GEO agency for medical practices, clinics, hospitals and healthcare brands. We make your providers and services clear to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini.

The questions that decide the appointment
Patients ask AI which provider to trust before they book.
- Specialists: “top-rated orthopedic surgeon in Phoenix for knee replacement”. The answer names a few surgeons, and the patient books a consultation with one of them.
- Access: “best primary care doctor in Jacksonville accepting new patients”. Clear information on new patients, insurance and locations decides who gets named.
- Urgency: “urgent care open late in Dallas”. Assistants answer from maps and listings, so accurate hours matter more than a homepage.
- Trust: “best therapist in Philadelphia for anxiety who takes insurance”. The assistant repeats what booking platforms and reviews confirm about each provider.
Most healthcare sites describe services vaguely. Assistants can confirm little. So they name a booking platform, a directory, or a provider with checkable specialty, location and reviews.
The basics
What is AI search optimization for healthcare?
GEO for healthcare makes your providers, services and locations clear to AI assistants. The goal is to be named when a patient asks where to get care.
Our test covered the 10 largest US cities. The three assistants named 135 different providers and agreed on only 5. Healthgrades was cited by all three.
That means two jobs. Service and provider pages must be specific enough to quote and reviewed by clinicians. Profiles on each assistant's platforms must be complete, accurate and consistent.
GEO and SEO
GEO vs SEO for healthcare providers.
Both share the same foundations, crawlable pages and local authority, but they answer to different readers. This is where they differ for a practice or clinic.
| SEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|
| What you win | A position in Google's local results for your specialty | A mention in the answer an assistant gives a patient |
| Where the patient sees you | A list of links or map results for "doctor near me" | The few providers ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity name |
| What decides it | Relevance, local links and Google Business Profile | Facts the assistant can confirm on Zocdoc, Healthgrades, WebMD, Google Maps and your own pages |
| Sources that weigh most | Your website and Google Business Profile | Your site plus booking platforms, provider directories and patient reviews |
| How it is measured | Rankings, map position and appointment requests | Citations across agreed patient prompts, and visits from AI assistants |

Healthcare providers
Where GEO matters most, by type of provider.
Primary and urgent care
Patients ask for doctors taking new patients, or care open now. Assistants first check hours, insurance and new patient details.
Specialist practices
Patients research specialists by condition and procedure. Pages per procedure and per provider give assistants something specific to match.
Hospitals and health systems
Patients ask which hospital is best. Clear service pages, named specialists and consistent location data help you get named locally.
Mental health practices
Patients want a therapist who fits their need and insurance. Clear specialties, approaches and accepted plans decide who assistants recommend.
Med spas and aesthetics
Clients compare treatments, practitioners and prices before booking. Treatment pages naming practitioners and what to expect give assistants specifics.
Digital health companies
Patients and employers ask which virtual care apps to use. Clear product, coverage and clinical information helps you get named.

Who this is for
Built for providers patients recommend.
Not for you
If any of these are you.
- You expect results in a few weeks
- You can't share site access or approve copy
- Your clinicians can't review medical content
- You can't say which services you want to grow
For you
If this is you.
- Patients compare providers before they book
- You have specialties or locations to grow
- You want the work done for you, not another report
- You're ready to commit to a 90-day window
- The work pays off where patients compare providers before they book.
- It works best when you can state clearly what you treat, where and for whom.
FAQ
AI search optimization for healthcare: questions they ask us.
Is GEO the same as AI search optimization for healthcare?
They are names for the same work. GEO for healthcare providers, AEO and AI search optimization share one goal. Your practice gets named when a patient asks an AI assistant. Healthcare GEO experts and agencies differ by method. Ours is the Citation Stack: prompt research, technical fixes, content, review and community research, and visibility tracking.
Do patients really use AI to choose a provider?
Increasingly. KFF found that 29% of US adults used an AI chatbot for information about their physical health in the past year. 41% of those users said they used it to decide whether to see a provider. A 2026 rater8 survey found 47% of patients had used AI to research providers.
Why do review and booking platforms matter so much for a practice's AI visibility?
Because assistants answer from them. In our test across the 10 largest US cities, Gemini cited Google Maps in 6 cities. ChatGPT and Perplexity cited Zocdoc in 5. Healthgrades was cited by all three. Accurate, complete profiles with recent reviews give assistants something concrete to repeat.
How is GEO for medical practices different from local SEO?
It builds on it. The location pages, listings and reviews that help in Google Maps also help assistants. GEO adds answer-first pages for each service and provider, and the profiles on the platforms each assistant reads, which are often not the ones a practice watches.
Can an independent practice compete with large health systems in AI answers?
Yes, because assistants answer the specific question. In our test, the three assistants named 135 different providers across 10 patient questions. 119 were named by only one assistant. A practice clearly described for a specialty and location can be named alongside a larger system.
What about medical content in Google AI Overviews?
Google's Search Central guidance says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews. The same best practices as for Search apply. For health topics that means content written or reviewed by named clinicians, with clear sources.
Can we track patients who arrived through an AI recommendation?
Partly. Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other assistants show up in your analytics as referrals. We track them. Patients who book through a platform such as Zocdoc after an AI answer are harder to attribute. So we also measure how often your practice is named for the agreed patient prompts.
How do you measure the work?
We count citations of your practice across the agreed patient prompts in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. We compare them to a baseline taken before work begins. We also track visitors AI assistants send to your site.
