What business buyers ask first
Buyers ask AI, then check Google.
- Lead generation: “best B2B lead generation companies”. The answer names a handful of firms, and it draws on agency listicles from vendors like Callbox, Belkins and ZoomInfo.
- Software: “best ERP software for mid-size manufacturers”. The buyer gets a short list, and it leans on comparison sites like ERP Research and on a few vendor pages.
- Payroll: “best payroll provider for a 200-person company”. Assistants name providers they can confirm on their own sites, and ADP is cited again and again.
- Platforms: “best B2B ecommerce platforms”. The shortlist leans on platform vendors, so Shopify and Oro Inc are cited and everyone else is skipped.
In our searches, assistants kept citing the same few sites: shopify.com in 6 answers, fitsmallbusiness.com in 5, and erpresearch.com, adp.com and oroinc.com in 3 each. A B2B company that is not on those pages is not on the shortlist.
The basics
B2B SEO, now that AI answers.
B2B SEO puts your solution pages in Google when buyers search for a vendor. GEO gets your company named when buyers ask AI. You need both.
Assistants build answers from your pages, reviews and comparison sites. In our test of 30 answers, shopify.com and fitsmallbusiness.com led the citations. Learn the GEO basics.
Two jobs follow. Make your solution pages specific enough to rank and be quoted by AI. Keep profiles and reviews consistent, so AI visibility follows.
GEO and SEO
SEO vs GEO for B2B companies.
Both rest on the same solution pages, reviews and profiles, but Google ranks them and an assistant quotes them. This is where they differ for a B2B company.
| SEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|
| What you win | A position in Google's results | Your company named in the assistant's answer |
| Where the buyer sees you | The results for a vendor search | The short list ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity gives buyers |
| What decides it | Relevance, authority and page experience | Facts the assistant can confirm on your site and in profiles |
| Sources that weigh most | Your website and its structure | Your site plus comparison sites, review sites and communities |
| How it is measured | Rankings, leads and pipeline | Citations across agreed buyer prompts, and visits from AI assistants |

Buyer questions
Where SEO and GEO matter, by question.
Vendor shortlists
Category questions come first. Clear solution pages and strong profiles put you in the answer.
Software and platforms
Comparison sites shape these answers. Specific feature and fit pages give assistants facts to quote. See B2B SaaS SEO.
Services and agencies
Buyers want proof of results and process. Case detail and clear scope make you easy to name and compare.
Local and regional suppliers
City searches matter too, like cleaning or staffing in Dallas or Austin. State your service area plainly.
Supply and logistics
Freight and packaging buyers compare on fit and reliability. Pages on capacity, sectors and process help.
Insurance and finance
Risk shapes every shortlist, so trust matters most. Clear, factual pages and complete profiles carry weight.

Who this is for
For companies that win deals on trust.
Not for you
If any of these sound like you.
- You expect new leads and rankings in the first few days
- You want the cheapest B2B SEO you can find
- You only want a report on where you rank, not the work done
- You can't approve the solution pages we write or share access to your site
For you
If this sounds like you.
- Business buyers research vendors before they contact you
- You can share case details, pricing logic and product facts
- You want the work done for you, not another report
- You have the final say on every page we write
- The work pays off where business buyers research vendors before they talk to sales.
- It also works where you can show real customers, reviews and clear offer details.
FAQ
B2B SEO: questions companies ask us.
What does a B2B SEO agency do now that AI answers?
It still earns rankings in Google: solution pages, technical fixes, profiles and reviews. Now it also has to get you named when buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini. One team handles both. See how SEO and GEO differ for a company like yours.
Is GEO the same as AEO, AI SEO or LLM optimization for B2B?
AI SEO for B2B, AEO for B2B companies and LLM optimization for B2B vendors mean the same work. The goal is assistants naming your company when buyers ask who to hire. The Citation Stack is our method, from prompt research to tracking.
How many business buyers use AI to find vendors?
A lot. G2's March 2026 survey of 1,076 B2B decision makers found 51% of software buyers start research with an AI chatbot more often than Google. That is why we cover Google and AI together.
How long does SEO for B2B websites take?
Usually months, not weeks. Solution and comparison pages tend to move first. Competitive category terms take longer. AI citations can move sooner, because profile updates are picked up fast. We report weekly against a baseline.
Why do AI assistants cite listicles and review sites instead of vendors?
Because comparison sites and review platforms give structured outside views of many vendors. We make your own pages specific and keep your profiles complete and consistent, so assistants can confirm what you do.
How do you get a B2B company cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity?
We make your company easy to confirm on the sites assistants read, starting with complete profiles and reviews. Then we write answer-first pages per solution and segment, add schema and track the prompts that matter. See our GEO strategy for B2B.
What do your B2B SEO services include?
Keyword and buyer prompt research, solution and comparison pages, technical SEO and schema, consistent profiles, community research and weekly tracking against a baseline. The first step is a free AI visibility audit of the searches your buyers use.
How do you measure the work?
We track your Google rankings and count citations of your company across the agreed buyer prompts in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. The baseline comes first. Visits from assistants show up in GA4 as their own source, so you see which pages bring leads.
How do you compare a B2B SEO firm and a GEO agency?
Ask three things before signing. Which buyer searches and AI questions will it track, against what baseline? Which profiles will it fix, beyond pages? How will it show results? Our free AI audit answers them for your company.
Do we still need Google rankings if buyers use AI?
Yes. After an AI answer, buyers still verify. Semrush's 2026 survey of 622 US professionals found 71% visit the vendor site and 63% search Google. Ranking in Google keeps you in that check. See AI visibility.
How is B2B SEO different from SaaS SEO?
The buyer group is bigger and the sale is slower, so pages must serve several readers. If you sell software, see B2B SaaS SEO and GEO for the version built around trials and comparisons.
